Seven Rescued After Bridge Collapse in Rompin, Including Pregnant Woman

KUANTAN — Seven people, including a heavily pregnant woman and a child, were safely rescued following the collapse of a bridge linking Kampung Selendang and Kampung Sungai Mok in Rompin earlier today.

Rompin district police chief Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the bridge collapsed at about 8am, prompting authorities to initiate a rescue and evacuation operation for residents affected by the incident.

He said three police officers from the Kuala Rompin police station were deployed to the site at 2.20pm to assist with the evacuation.

“The operation involved two adult men, three elderly women, a pregnant woman and a young girl. Those considered most vulnerable were prioritised during the evacuation process,” he said in a statement.

All seven victims, aged between 11 and 55, were relocated to stay with relatives. The pregnant woman, who is due to give birth on January 7, did not require medical treatment and was moved to a relative’s home in Kampung Tanam.

Meanwhile, the Rompin Public Works Department announced that Jalan Kampung Sungai Mok has been closed to all vehicles following the bridge collapse, with no alternative route currently available.
