KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4, 2026 — A candlelight protest was held in central Kuala Lumpur on Saturday night as demonstrators expressed solidarity with Venezuela and opposition to actions linked to the United States.
The gathering began at around 7 p.m. outside the Venezuelan Embassy at Menara Tan & Tan, where participants held banners and chanted slogans criticizing the administration of US President Donald Trump.
Placards calling for an end to foreign intervention and respect for Venezuela’s sovereignty were displayed, while police officers maintained order throughout the event.
Representatives from Latin American diplomatic missions were also present, including Venezuelan consular official Oswaldo Gonzales and Cuban Ambassador to Malaysia Yadira Ledesma.
At approximately 8 p.m., protesters marched peacefully toward the US Embassy under police supervision to continue their demonstration.
The protest followed reports alleging US military action in Caracas and the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
