KUALA LUMPUR: Flood conditions across several Malaysian states remain mixed, with Sabah seeing an increase in evacuees, while Sarawak and Johor show encouraging signs of recovery.
As of this afternoon, 607 flood victims are still housed at evacuation centres in the three affected states, following heavy rainfall over recent days.
Sabah continues to bear the brunt of the flooding, with Kota Kinabalu and Beaufort reporting a combined total of 510 evacuees from 164 families. Continuous rain has caused water levels to remain high in several low-lying areas, prompting further evacuations.
In Sarawak, floodwaters have largely receded, leaving only one temporary evacuation centre operational in Miri. Areas such as Kuching and Lawas have returned to normal, with authorities closing all remaining centres after confirming that conditions are safe.
Johor has also recorded a decline in flood victims, with only 50 people from 15 families still housed at two evacuation centres in Segamat. Authorities continue to monitor river levels closely, as several rivers remain at warning levels despite the overall improvement.
Officials have advised residents in affected areas to remain cautious and comply with instructions from authorities as weather conditions continue to be closely monitored.
