750 Evacuated as Floodwaters Spread to More Districts in Kelantan, Weather Warnings Intensify

KOTA BHARU: Floodwaters continued to rise across Kelantan, pushing the number of evacuees to 750 people, after two new districts — Kota Bharu and Tumpat — reported significant flooding late Saturday.

Data from InfoBencanaJKM indicates that 311 families have been moved to eight temporary shelters.

Rescue agencies noted that several roads in low-lying areas became impassable by evening as floodwaters reached alarming depths.

Bachok, the earliest district affected, recorded the highest number of evacuees at 334.

Tumpat followed closely with 323 evacuees, while Kota Bharu registered 93 displaced individuals as residential areas along the Kelantan River flooded.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a severe rain warning, forecasting heavy downpours to persist until Monday in five coastal districts.

Meanwhile, prolonged rainfall is expected to affect inland districts until Wednesday, raising concerns of possible secondary flooding in the coming days.

Authorities have advised residents to monitor official announcements and avoid attempting to cross flooded roads, as water levels may rise without warning.
