BN Must Strengthen Unity, Avoid Further Division – Shamsul Anuar

KUALA LUMPUR – UMNO Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, has reminded Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders and members that unity within the coalition is crucial to maintaining public trust and political relevance, especially in the current fluid political landscape.

In a Facebook post, Shamsul Anuar stressed that BN’s strength lies in solidarity among its component parties, and warned against actions or statements that could weaken the coalition.

“The reality is we need each other, and there is no meaning in being divided when members and the rakyat actually want a stable party to represent them. Division has already cost BN dearly in the 15th General Election (GE15), when despite offering ‘stability,’ the people saw us fractured,” he wrote.

He emphasized that the value of MCA and MIC in BN should not be measured merely by the number of seats won, but by the broader voter support they represent.

“Even if in some constituencies the numbers are small, every single vote is important. History has shown us that BN once failed to form a government in Kelantan simply because it was short of two votes. This should serve as a lesson for us all,” he added.

Shamsul Anuar also cautioned against repeating past mistakes, reminding BN not to lose any more component parties after the setback of GE14.

He called on BN leaders to strengthen bonds rather than create divisions, noting that the coalition’s long history, experience, and resilience are assets that must not be undermined.
“BN is not a new coalition. It has gone through many tests, and that experience is invaluable. Therefore, avoid making statements that could strain relationships built on mutual respect and understanding since the early days,” he said.

Expressing confidence in the wisdom of BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Shamsul Anuar urged all parties to adopt a consultative approach in resolving disputes.
“I believe the Chairman has the wisdom to resolve matters. And believe me, anything can be solved if we sit together and discuss,” he concluded.

His remarks come amid heightened political maneuverings ahead of possible elections and ongoing debates on BN’s role within the unity government.
