PGA tightens border controls following shooting incident in Sungai Golok

TUMPAT: The Southeast Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) has increased security and inspections along the Malaysia-Thailand border following the latest shooting incident in Sungai Golok, Narathiwat, Thailand which killed a Malaysian man.

Acting Southeast Brigade Commander PGA ACP Ijid Landu Binju said that although his party had enhanced border control measures, they were always vigilant and did not just act based on isolated incidents.

“No matter what happens on the Thai side, we on the Malaysian side are always on alert.

“I have instructed officers and personnel stationed along the border to remain on alert,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Tactical Company Headquarters (Martek) in Pengkalan Kubor today.

He said roadblocks and patrols have also been increased as a precautionary measure in maintaining border security.

Earlier, Bernama reported that a Malaysian man was shot dead in an incident at a house in Sungai Golok town, Narathiwat, last night.

Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the incident.
