BONGAWAN, Nov 10, 2025 — Former foreign minister Tan Sri Anifah Aman has been officially announced as the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate for the Bongawan state seat in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election, scheduled for November 29.
The announcement was made by GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor during a “Meet the People” event in Dewan Bongawan on Monday evening. Hajiji expressed confidence that the constituency, currently held by the opposition, could be reclaimed by GRS, in line with the local slogan “Bongawan Maju.”
“I am confident that Bongawan will return to GRS this election. Tan Sri Anifah’s track record speaks for itself — his years of service as Kimanis Member of Parliament have benefited this area greatly,” said Hajiji.
He called on party members to unite and strengthen the election machinery, emphasizing that collective effort was key to securing victory. Hajiji also voiced optimism that GRS would form the next state government, ensuring political stability and development continuity.
“If we retain power, more economic programmes will be implemented over the next five years for the benefit of the people,” he added, while urging voters not to be swayed by what he described as opposition rhetoric, misinformation, and false promises.
