Man feared drowned after falling during high tide at Geliga Jetty

CHUKAI: A man is feared drowned after he reportedly slipped and fell into the water during a major high tide at Geliga Che Akob Jetty last night.

Fire and Rescue senior officer Mohamad Hanif Che Khalid said the victim, 31-year-old Muhammad Anuar Syukrimie Mahmood, had been sitting with friends when the 10pm incident occurred.

With the tide rising to 3.7 metres, the victim is believed to have slipped off the jetty. His friends attempted to search for him but were unable to locate him.

The Fire Department received an emergency call only at 2.26pm today and deployed 17 personnel to conduct a search and rescue operation.

The search covers a one-kilometre radius with two boats and assistance from police and local volunteers.
