PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing negotiations with the Terengganu state government and FELDA to resolve the long-standing dispute involving 10 FELDA and FGV plantations operating within the state.
Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said consensus to extend the discussions was reached yesterday during a meeting between senior federal and state officials. He added that the matter may be raised at the upcoming Cabinet meeting by the Prime Minister.
Fahmi also stressed that no direct discussions have yet taken place between the state government and the Cabinet regarding the issue.
The dispute escalated when Terengganu issued prohibition notices against FELDA over 15,000 hectares of plantation land, alleging the land had been cultivated for more than 40 years without premium payments, taxation, or profit-sharing arrangements.
