GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Fair 2025/2026 will be the final edition held at the Sungai Nibong fairground before the event goes on a six-year hiatus to pave the way for the construction of the Mutiara Light Rail Transit (LRT) line and a transit-oriented development (TOD).
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the decision is necessary to allow MRT Corp to take over the site as part of a major public transport infrastructure project aimed at transforming urban mobility in Penang.
Although the previous edition was initially expected to be the last, Chow said updated timelines showing site handover beginning only in April 2026 made it possible for the fair to return for one more year.
“This gives the public another opportunity to enjoy the Penang Fair before it takes a long break,” he said at the opening ceremony of the 2025/2026 edition.
The event was officially opened by Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib.
