PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports has successfully completed Phase 1 of the expansion and modernisation of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport’s (ISG) Terminal 1, marking a significant advancement in its long-term infrastructure development strategy.
The initiative highlights Malaysia Airports’ disciplined planning approach, phased execution strategy and strong operational expertise in managing high-growth airport environments. The enhancements are aimed at strengthening capacity, improving passenger flow and sustaining service quality in line with growing international demand.
According to Malaysia Airports, ISG continues to register robust passenger growth, handling more than 40 million travellers annually and ranking as Türkiye’s second busiest airport. International passengers now account for more than half of total traffic, underscoring the necessity for enhanced infrastructure readiness.
The €70 million (RM334 million) project, targeted for full completion in the second quarter of 2026, is being implemented through close collaboration between HEAŞ, ISG International Airport Investment Development and Operation Inc., and Malaysia Airports.
The officiation ceremony was attended by key Turkish leaders including Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Defence Industries Secretariat President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, ISG Governor Halil Avşar, HEAŞ General Manager Faruk Kacır and Malaysia Airports Group Managing Director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani.
With the completion of Phase 1, ISG’s combined annual capacity across its terminals now exceeds 50 million passengers, reinforcing its position as one of Europe’s fastest-growing aviation hubs and strengthening Malaysia Airports’ international growth trajectory.
