KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s ability to withstand and navigate through global economic pressures in 2025 was largely driven by the spirit of unity and collaboration among its people, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
He said cooperation between the government, public sector, private industry and citizens played a pivotal role in ensuring Malaysia not only remained stable but continued to register positive economic performance.
Malaysia’s economic growth, which recorded 5.2 per cent in the third quarter of 2025 compared to 4.4 per cent in the second quarter, demonstrated the nation’s resilience despite uncertainties and geopolitical tensions affecting the global economy.
Fadillah expressed appreciation for the collective strength of Malaysians, describing it as the essence of “segulai sejalai” – moving forward together as one.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the MADANI Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which continues to prioritise the wellbeing of the people despite ongoing challenges.
Commenting on global developments, Fadillah said prolonged conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, have disrupted energy markets and supply chains. This underscores the need for Malaysia to preserve political stability, unity and sound economic governance.
Regionally, he noted that Malaysia’s leadership in hosting the 47th ASEAN Summit successfully redirected ASEAN’s focus towards economic resilience, food and energy security, strengthening the bloc’s position as a stabilising regional force.
As Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, Fadillah also highlighted significant achievements including the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and the launch of long-term regional cooperation frameworks.
He said initiatives involving the ASEAN Power Grid, petroleum security arrangements and financing cooperation with international development banks demonstrated Malaysia’s role in guiding ASEAN’s energy future.
Fadillah expressed gratitude to the people and called for continued unity as Malaysia prepares to enter 2026 with renewed determination.
