BEIJING — President Lee Jae Myung has begun a four-day state visit to China aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across economic, security and cultural domains.
The visit includes a scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, their second in recent months following talks held during the APEC summit in November.
Accompanied by a large business delegation, Lee will attend a Korea–China economic forum in Beijing, where discussions are expected to cover collaboration in artificial intelligence, green energy, supply chains and tourism. More than 10 memorandums of understanding are anticipated to be signed during the visit.
Cultural exchange is also a key focus, with Seoul seeking broader access for Korean content in China, which has faced unofficial restrictions since South Korea deployed a US missile defence system in 2017.
Sensitive issues, including China’s construction of steel structures in overlapping maritime zones in the Yellow Sea, are also expected to be raised. Lee is scheduled to meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang and National People’s Congress Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji before travelling to Shanghai.
In Shanghai, Lee plans to visit historical sites linked to Korea’s provisional government during Japanese colonial rule before returning home later this week.
