Kuala Lumpur, August 17 – PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan urged both DAP and UMNO, who are partners in the federal and state governments, to resolve such matters internally without dragging in law enforcement unnecessarily or shaping unhealthy public narratives.
The issue stems from a recent gathering in Kepala Batas, Penang, which involved controversy over a Malaysian flag (Jalur Gemilang) being flown upside down — an act currently under police investigation.
“Given that the incident involves the action of a single individual, and it is already under police scrutiny, escalating it through political tit-for-tat responses is unwise and unjustified,” said Takiyuddin.
He noted that PAS had advised its youth wing not to get involved in the matter.
PAS stressed the importance of supporting and respecting the official police investigation process without adding undue pressure or sensationalism. According to the party, failure to do so by the two ruling coalition parties risks worsening the situation and could potentially spiral into broader societal unrest.
“Unrestrained actions by one side will inevitably invite equal or more intense responses from the other, turning a minor individual act into a cycle of public discord with no meaningful resolution,” the statement read.
As the country approaches its 68th Independence Day celebration, PAS called on all parties to return to the founding principles of the nation and the values enshrined in the Rukun Negara, emphasizing unity, respect, and the shared goal of prosperity across all races, cultures, and beliefs.
