Petaling Jaya, 18 August 2025 – Petaling Jaya once again played host to one of Malaysia’s most prestigious running events as the PJ Half Marathon 2025 returned for its 35th edition today, drawing thousands of participants and spectators to Laman MBPJ.
The iconic race drew over 8,000 runners from across Malaysia and abroad, celebrating the spirit of unity, endurance, and vibrant community participation. Among the international participants, 250 runners from 34 countries took part — with Japan and Singapore recording the highest entries at 30 runners each, followed by the Philippines (25), the Netherlands (20), and India (20).
This year’s event featured five main race categories: the 30km Open, 21km Open, 10km Open, 5km Fun Run, and a 1km Costume-Themed Fun Run — each offering a unique experience for participants of varying fitness levels.
The first flag-off, for the 30km category, was officiated at 3:30 AM by YBrs. Tuan Aznan bin Hj. Hassan, Deputy Mayor of Petaling Jaya.
To ensure participant safety, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) deployed 100 personnel for traffic control from 3:00 AM onwards, supported by 80 enforcement officers from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
To honour the runners’ dedication, the organisers offered a total prize pool of RM60,200 across all competitive categories, rewarding athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and resilience.
The PJ Half Marathon 2025 is jointly organised by MBPJ and Puncak Ventures SRA Sdn. Bhd., in collaboration with the Selangor Para Athletics Association (POPS).
The event also welcomed an expanded lineup of sponsors, including major brands such as 100Plus and Ice Mountain (F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn. Bhd.), sportswear brand Vrtic, nutrition partner N8, endurance apparel RULe, ATF Sport Taping, Xtep Malaysia, and AED provider Nano Medic Care (Primedic). Pacers were officially supported by Pacemakers Malaysia.
Additional sponsors included Suunto Malaysia, Hospital Assunta, Mamee Double-Decker Sdn. Bhd., Yong Kang TCM, Kao Malaysia, Guardian Health & Beauty Sdn. Bhd., and S&P Industries Sdn. Bhd.
Medical readiness was also stepped up for the event, with paramedics, motorcycle patrols, and on-site health personnel stationed along the race route to ensure immediate response in case of emergencies.
Notably, this year’s marathon established a strategic partnership with Tourism Selangor in support of the Visit Selangor Year 2025 (TMS2025) campaign, reinforcing Petaling Jaya’s growing reputation as a dynamic destination for sports and tourism.
