KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 – The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has responded to a media statement dated August 19, 2025, issued by the appointed counsel of Puan Noraida binti Lamat, mother of the late Zara Qairina, concerning the counsel’s application to defer prosecution under Section 507C(1) of the Penal Code and their proposal for charges under Section 507D(2) of the Penal Code.
In a statement, the AGC clarified that after reviewing the investigation papers, the charge under Section 507C(1) of the Penal Code was filed as it specifically relates to acts of bullying and does not establish a direct connection to Zara Qairina’s death.
The AGC further noted that the lawyer’s assertions in Paragraph 4 of the said media statement were speculative and not supported by verified facts.
The AGC stressed that the charge under Section 507C(1) was made based on evidence and facts obtained through investigations.
It added that an inquest proceeding must still be conducted to determine the actual cause of Zara Qairina’s death.
