PUTRAJAYA — The Ministry of Education is strengthening six major initiatives after the SEA-PLM 2024 assessment revealed the current state of literacy and numeracy among Malaysian Year Five students.
Malaysia’s performance remained above the regional mean, with 69% achieving Band 5 and above in Reading and 74% in Mathematics.
The assessment, involving 4,379 students, provides insight into classroom realities through cognitive tests and surveys among teachers, parents and school leaders.
MOE is focusing on enhanced preschool reading modules, structured 3M mastery programmes, early intervention for Year 1 and expanded remedial support.
