PM Anwar extends invitation to new Thai PM to visit Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA, 19 September 2025 – Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, held a conversation this afternoon with his Thai counterpart, H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul, following the latter’s official assumption of office as Prime Minister of Thailand.

During the call, Prime Minister Anwar extended an invitation for Prime Minister Anutin to visit Malaysia in the near future, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the warm and longstanding ties between the two neighbouring nations.

Both leaders also discussed recent developments along the Thailand-Cambodia border. Prime Minister Anwar emphasised the importance of all parties maintaining calm and avoiding any escalation of tensions arising from unresolved differences.

“I stressed the importance of maintaining peace and not allowing any differences to spark unnecessary tensions,” said Prime Minister Anwar.

He further urged that any arising issues be addressed through diplomatic channels, particularly through the established Joint Border Committee (JBC) mechanism.

“Malaysia believes that dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual understanding are the best means to safeguard regional peace and stability.”

The conversation reflects Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to regional cooperation and its belief in constructive engagement as the foundation for resolving disputes in Southeast Asia.
