LONDON: Paul Lim’s triumph at the World Darts Championship has captured global attention, as the 71-year-old Singaporean became the oldest player to ever win a match at the tournament.
Lim defeated Jeffrey de Graaf 3-1 at Alexandra Palace, delivering a performance marked by composure, precision and competitive grit that belied his age.
The victory broke a record that had stood since 2008 and reinforced Lim’s place as one of darts’ most iconic figures.
Best remembered for throwing the first nine-darter at the World Championship in 1990, Lim continues to defy expectations decades later.
Speaking after the match, Lim said moments like this fuel his motivation to keep competing.
“This tournament is the pinnacle of darts. To win here at my age is incredibly meaningful,” he said.
Lim will next face world champion Luke Humphries, a matchup that highlights the generational gap in modern darts. Yet Lim remains undeterred.
“I never give up. On the right day, anything can happen,” he said.
Lim’s achievement stands as an inspiration to athletes worldwide, proving that determination and experience remain powerful forces in elite sport.
