KOTA KINABALU (Nov 3) — UPKO Youth has pressed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to intensify monitoring and deliver firm action to ensure the Sabah State Election is free from corruption and vote manipulation.
UPKO National Youth chief Felix Joseph Saang said MACC’s recent statement of commitment is encouraging but must be followed by measurable outcomes on the ground.
“The MACC must walk the talk. This is not the time for rhetoric — the people want action,” he said.
“Every form of corruption, from vote buying to misuse of government resources, must be monitored and addressed swiftly.”
Felix emphasised that corruption during elections erodes democracy and public trust.
“The commission’s credibility depends on its ability to act fairly, transparently, and without fear or favour,” he added.
He called for equal enforcement across all political parties and urged MACC to be present at every level of the electoral process.
“Integrity must be seen, not just declared,” he said.
Felix, who also serves as UPKO Beluran Division chief, suggested that MACC expand its monitoring force from 40 to at least 73 officers, allowing one officer per constituency for full coverage across Sabah’s vast geography.
“Sabah is large and diverse — effective oversight requires adequate manpower,” he noted.
He reaffirmed that UPKO Youth stands ready to cooperate with the MACC and other agencies to ensure a transparent, fair, and corruption-free election, in line with the principles of democracy and good governance.
