PUTATAN: With seat allocations settled and campaign machinery gearing up, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have reaffirmed their commitment to a united front in Sabah’s looming state election.
Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, BN’s deputy chairman, said the two coalitions have completed negotiations to avoid seat overlaps—a key test of their cooperation following earlier tensions seen in Peninsular Malaysia.
“All constituencies have been finalised, and both sides are now coordinating on candidate selection. We’re ready to deploy our machinery after nomination day,” said Mohamad during a working visit to Kampung Contoh.
He underscored that the partnership between BN and PH remains stable, despite speculation of friction as they prepare to take on Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
The Foreign Minister also offered a glimpse into BN’s internal dynamics, endorsing Jeffrey Noh, the Umno division chief for Putatan, as the preferred candidate for Tanjung Keramat.
“His dedication to rebuilding Umno at the grassroots level after defeat deserves recognition,” Mohamad said.
With incumbent Datuk Shahelmey Yahya still aligned with GRS, the contest is expected to be closely watched. BN president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will unveil the final candidate list on Nov 9.
Mohamad’s visit also doubled as an inspection of BN’s on-ground readiness. He highlighted the importance of mobilising every voter, even in logistical challenges.
“If roads are congested, motorcycles will be used. For supporters with limited mobility, we’ll provide wheelchairs,” he quipped.
The coordinated announcements by BN in Kota Kinabalu and PH at the Sabah International Convention Centre on the same day are expected to mark the formal start of a high-stakes campaign that could redefine Sabah’s political alliances.
