KUALA NERUS — The Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM) has taken another step toward modernising zakat management by distributing RM16.5 million to assist over 25,000 underprivileged families through the 2025 Asnaf Aid Convoy (KAHA) programme.
President Datuk Shaikh Harun Shaikh Ismail said the programme, now in its fourth year, was designed to ensure efficient, targeted, and transparent disbursement of zakat funds.
The first phase allocated RM13.44 million to 25,162 families between January and August, while the second phase — worth RM3 million — will support around 5,000 families from September to December.
He explained that the aid includes monthly allowances, rent, living support, and general medical expenses, distributed according to household size. “The initiative also strengthens engagement between zakat contributors and recipients through direct outreach and home visits,” he said.
This year’s KAHA event was hosted by the Kuala Nerus District MAIDAM Office, marking the first time it has been held at the district level.
MAIDAM CEO Assoc. Prof. Datuk Dr Ahmad Azrin Adnan said the programme introduces a cashless distribution system via Me12Pay, allowing beneficiaries to use their identification cards for purchases at partner outlets.
He added that MAIDAM’s strong financial performance — with zakat distribution reaching 115% of total collections in 2024 — reflects its efficiency and deep community trust in Terengganu’s zakat institution.
