BUKIT MERTAJAM — Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong has praised the resilience and dignity of a family that once had no choice but to live in their car after falling victim to a rental scam.
During a recent visit, Steven said he was encouraged to see the family now living in a rented house equipped with basic necessities, a stark contrast to their struggles a year earlier.
He noted that Hilmi, the family’s breadwinner, now earns a steady income as a truck driver and has managed to provide a more secure future for his children.
Steven also highlighted Hilmi’s decision to avoid debt by purchasing a used Proton Waja in cash after selling the Perodua Bezza that once served as the family’s shelter.
“They didn’t rise by complaining or begging. They rose with dignity, hard work and love for their children,” Steven said, adding that such stories reaffirm his belief that helping those in need can transform not just lives, but entire futures.
