SHANGHAI — With demand for halal products surging across Asia, Malaysia is setting its sights on RM3 billion in sales from this year’s MIHAS@Shanghai 2025, up from the earlier projection of RM2.5 billion.
The announcement came from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who said the revised target was prompted by strong interest from premium international buyers and the confidence shown by exhibitors in Malaysia’s halal framework.
“Malaysia’s halal ecosystem continues to gain global trust. With the participation of 20 premium buyers, we expect to surpass the RM3 billion mark,” Zahid said at the event, held alongside the China International Import Expo (CIIE).
He emphasized that Malaysia’s leadership in halal trade extends far beyond food. The country is now focusing on technology, innovation, and sustainable products, mirroring global shifts within the halal economy.
Zahid said the next phase will involve university-industry partnerships to commercialize research-driven products, bridging innovation with market demand.
Malaysia, he added, is also expanding its presence in Islamic finance, particularly green investment instruments, as demand rises across Europe, North America, and China.
“China’s growing interest in sukuk and Islamic finance underscores Malaysia’s pioneering role as a global leader in the field,” he said.
To reinforce industry development, Malaysia plans to elevate the Halal Development Corporation into a full-fledged Halal Development Commission, tasked with overseeing certification, governance, and industrial growth.
“MIHAS@Shanghai is more than a trade event — it symbolizes Malaysia’s global leadership in halal trade and innovation, and our commitment to long-term collaboration with China,” Zahid said.
He also highlighted Shanghai’s strategic role as Asia’s innovation hub, offering Malaysian exporters a direct gateway into East Asia’s high-value consumer market.
Zahid is currently in Shanghai for a four-day working visit at China’s invitation to participate in CIIE 2025 at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre.
