Kelantan Preparing Strict SOP for Gold Panning, Industrial Methods Require Licensing

KOTA BHARU: A new regulatory framework governing gold panning in Kelantan is almost ready and will be tabled at the next state exco meeting, said Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan.

The PTG is conducting a comprehensive assessment to ensure the activity aligns with safety standards and environmental protection requirements.

Dr Mohamed Fadzli emphasised that the state has not yet authorised gold panning and is working to prevent misuse of equipment such as mobile machines, which will be treated as industrial mining.

He said the state will coordinate buyer regulations, gold purchase pricing and panner registration through a licensing system.

Although 20 mining licenses have been issued, only four companies — including one major operator — remain active.
