Armed Suspect Shot Dead After Opening Fire on Police During Anti-Robbery Operation in Dengkil

KUALA LUMPUR: A man believed to be involved in criminal activities was shot dead following a gunfire exchange with police during a special operation along Jalan Banting–Dengkil near Batu 8 on Monday night.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar Muthuvelu said the confrontation erupted while the elite D9 unit was conducting a targeted sweep against robbery groups operating in Banting, Dengkil and Sepang.

Officers encountered a silver Perodua Myvi driven suspiciously and attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the suspect suddenly opened fire from inside the car, forcing police to defend themselves.

“Due to the immediate threat posed by the suspect, our officers were compelled to return fire and neutralise the danger,” he said.

Paramedics confirmed the suspect’s death at the scene. A search of the vehicle uncovered a Colt .45 pistol, three Kynoch .45 rounds and seven packets of crystal-like substances believed to be drugs. No identification documents were found on the deceased.

Investigators are exploring whether the suspect is linked to organised crime or illegal weapon trafficking.
