Greater Economic Coordination Needed Among OIC States to Strengthen Trade – Wahid Omar

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar urged OIC member countries to deepen economic engagement in order to accelerate intra-OIC trade.

Despite rapid population growth, he noted that Muslim-majority countries still hold a relatively modest share of global GDP.

He added that the Islamic Development Bank should broaden its development role and that OIC-based banks must expand cross-border operations to improve trade flows and financial connectivity.

Wahid also highlighted the need for more reasonable investment expectations to encourage capital movement into developing Muslim nations.
