KUALA LUMPUR: Attempts to scrutinise the personal background of individuals linked to the Durian Tunggal police shooting will not obscure the central issue of whether the killing of three men was lawful, according to lawyers for the victims’ families.
In a strongly worded statement, Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetraj Singh said remarks made by the Melaka police chief were unbecoming of a senior officer and risked compromising the credibility of the investigation.
They stressed that no amount of character assassination could detract from the fact that three lives were lost and that the use of lethal force by the state must be subject to strict legal scrutiny.
“The rule of law demands accountability, not distraction,” the lawyers said, calling for a transparent and independent investigation into the incident.
