Search Ends in Tragedy as Man Missing at Jeram Besu Confirmed Dead

KUANTAN — A search and rescue operation at the Jeram Besu recreational area concluded tragically today after a man who was swept away by river currents was found drowned.

The victim, a 25-year-old technician, was discovered by rescue personnel roughly 700 metres downstream from where he went missing, following several days of search efforts.

The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department said the operation faced significant difficulties due to fast-flowing water, high river levels and poor visibility conditions.

Despite these challenges, rescue teams continued surface searches until the body was recovered at about 3.40 p.m. The remains were subsequently handed over to police for further procedures.

Authorities reiterated warnings for the public to remain vigilant when engaging in recreational activities near rivers and open waters, particularly during the Northeast Monsoon season, which increases the risk of sudden strong currents.

The man had reportedly been at the recreational site with his wife prior to the incident.
