Titiwangsa MP to Seek Clarification on Flat Seri Perlis 2 Redevelopment Status

KUALA LUMPUR: Titiwangsa Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani has said he will meet the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, to seek official clarification on the status of the proposed redevelopment of Flat Seri Perlis 2 in Taman Datuk Keramat.

Johari, who also serves as Minister of Plantation and Commodities, said the meeting is necessary to ensure that any redevelopment plans involving the public housing complex, if pursued, take into account the welfare, rights and long-term needs of local residents.

He said the discussion is expected to also involve Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud, allowing for coordination between federal authorities, city administrators and the elected representative of the area.

“Residents have approached me with concerns after hearing various rumours about possible relocation and developer interest in redeveloping the area,” Johari told reporters after attending the Santuni Madani programme at the flats.

He stressed that, for now, the status of Flat Seri Perlis 2 remains unchanged, with no formal redevelopment proposals submitted by any developer to the relevant authorities.

Johari emphasised that any proposal to redevelop public housing must go through proper consultation with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), relevant ministries and the local Member of Parliament to ensure transparency and fairness.

“The interests of residents must come first. Development cannot be rushed, especially when it affects livelihoods and established communities,” he said.

He added that urban redevelopment must balance infrastructure improvement with social considerations, particularly for low-income residents living in public housing.

Commenting on the Santuni Madani programme, Johari said the initiative aims to bring government leaders closer to the people, allowing them to understand grassroots concerns and deliver assistance directly to communities.

More than 300 heads of households from the asnaf group received food baskets containing essential items during the programme, as part of efforts to ease the cost-of-living burden.

Johari said such initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive governance under the Malaysia Madani framework.
