Over 900 Flee South Kordofan as Security Situation Worsens – IOM

KHARTOUM/ISTANBUL: More than 900 people have fled South Kordofan in southern Sudan over the past three days as the security situation continues to deteriorate, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

In a statement, the United Nations agency said its displacement tracking teams estimated that around 365 people fled the city of Kadugli between December 11 and 13 due to escalating insecurity.

An additional 85 people were displaced from the town of al-Kuwayk in eastern rural South Kordofan during the same period, while 455 others fled the city of Dilling as safety conditions further declined.

IOM said the displaced families have moved to various locations, primarily North Kordofan, as well as White Nile state in the south and Khartoum in central Sudan.

The agency warned that the situation in South Kordofan remains highly volatile and tense, adding that it is closely monitoring developments on the ground.

The latest displacement comes amid intensifying clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), along with their allies from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).
