KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has dismissed concerns that Hannah Yeoh’s appointment as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) could affect the Malay agenda in the Federal Territories.
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had weighed various considerations before finalising the appointment, emphasising that Cabinet decisions are made collectively and transparently.
“All major policies and decisions are discussed in Cabinet, with safeguards in place to protect the interests of all communities,” Zahid said.
He highlighted that Hannah’s previous tenure as Youth and Sports Minister showed no evidence of racial bias, reinforcing confidence in her ability to manage the Federal Territories portfolio professionally.
Zahid also underlined that governance structures in the Federal Territories remain unchanged, with Kuala Lumpur City Hall continuing its role under Malay leadership.
He added that the appointment of Datuk Lo Su Fui as deputy minister reflected the government’s inclusive approach, taking into account representation from Sabah and the diverse nature of the Federal Territories.
Zahid assured that the prime minister and deputy prime ministers will maintain oversight to ensure that national priorities remain firmly on track.
