BANGKOK — The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) event at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games concluded with a remarkable showcase of skill and national pride as the Philippines and Malaysia emerged as the biggest winners. Over five days of intense competition in Bangkok, the tournament proved once again why MLBB remains one of the region’s most impactful esports titles.
In the men’s division, the Philippines continued their reign as the dominant powerhouse of MLBB. Their journey culminated in a flawless 4–0 triumph over Malaysia in the Best-of-Seven final, marking their fourth consecutive SEA Games gold medal. The team’s unbeaten campaign highlighted their superior strategy, cohesion and consistency. Star jungler Karl Gabriel “PHI_Nepomuceno” further etched his legacy by becoming only the second player in MLBB SEA Games history to capture gold twice.
Malaysia, while falling short in the men’s event, redeemed their campaign spectacularly in the women’s division. The Malaysian women’s team delivered a thrilling performance to defeat the Philippines 4–3 in a nail-biting final. The victory not only secured Malaysia’s first-ever MLBB women’s gold medal but also broke the Philippines’ unbeaten run in the tournament. It marked a significant improvement from Malaysia’s previous bronze finish, while the Philippines walked away with silver.
Both divisions followed a near-identical competitive path, with Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar reaching the semifinals. Indonesia later triumphed over Myanmar to secure bronze medals in both categories.
MOONTON Games highlighted that the event reflected the strength and maturity of Southeast Asia’s esports ecosystem, built through years of structured leagues, development programs and inclusive initiatives.
Thailand Esports Federation President Santi Lothong praised the success of the Bangkok event, stating that it united fans, elevated national pride and demonstrated the emotional and cultural impact of esports.
With women’s MLBB increasingly gaining prominence and its inclusion in major multi-sport events continuing, the title’s significance continues to grow globally. As the SEA Games chapter ends, attention now shifts to the M7 World Championship in Indonesia, which promises to elevate MLBB esports to unprecedented heights.
