BANGKOK — The national diving camp wrapped up its SEA Games 2025 campaign with results that may not be sensational, but clearly highlighted development, renewed depth and positive forward movement within the squad.
Team manager Desdemona Mollon said expectations were realistic from the start due to the absence of several senior stars and the introduction of a predominantly young lineup. She stressed the focus this time was on building dive difficulty, strategic exposure and stabilising competitive confidence.
Only two divers had prior SEA Games exposure. Even so, Malaysia walked away with two gold medals — in the men’s 3m synchronised springboard and women’s synchronised platform — and one bronze, courtesy of Yong Rui Jie in the men’s 1m springboard.
Malaysia did, however, lose its long-running grip on the men’s 3m springboard individual title, with Elvis Priestly and Syafiq finishing outside the podium.
Still, Malaysia topped the overall medal standings in diving, reinforcing its position as a regional powerhouse despite being in transition.
Desdemona remains optimistic, saying the current squad has strong foundations and the right trajectory toward SEA Games 2027. Plans are already underway to increase competition exposure for younger divers, ensuring they grow from promising performers into dependable senior medal contenders.
