Terengganu Declared Flood-Free as Final Group of Evacuees Leaves Relief Centre

KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 21 — Terengganu has now fully recovered from the recent wave of flooding after the final group of evacuees in Kemaman were permitted to return to their homes following improving weather conditions.

According to Terengganu Civil Defence Force director Colonel (PA) Mohd Zul Khairi Shamsuddin, a total of 571 individuals from 155 families were allowed to leave the temporary evacuation centre at SK Bukit Mentok this evening.

He said the clearance for residents to return was given after authorities confirmed that water levels had receded and affected areas were safe.

However, Mohd Zul Khairi reminded the public that the Northeast Monsoon is still active and residents should not let their guard down. He emphasised the need for continued vigilance, especially among communities frequently affected by seasonal flooding.

He called on residents to remain attentive to weather forecasts and official alerts from MetMalaysia, prepare essential emergency supplies and be ready to evacuate immediately if instructed.

The Civil Defence Force, together with relevant agencies, will continue to monitor river levels, weather developments and high-risk zones to ensure preparedness for any future incidents.

While the closure of the evacuation centre marks an end to the flood situation in Terengganu, authorities continue to focus on post-flood recovery efforts including home cleaning assistance and welfare support for affected families.

The recent flooding, although now resolved, serves as a reminder of the recurring risks faced by coastal states during the monsoon season, and preparedness remains a crucial responsibility for both agencies and the public.
