BUTTERWORTH, Dec 21 — The Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party has reiterated that it has no ambition to take over MIC’s role within Barisan Nasional (BN), asserting that its focus remains on collaboration rather than competition.
Party president Datuk Seri RS Thanenthiran said Makkal Sakti will not position itself as a substitute for MIC despite speculation arising from current political developments involving MIC and its future within BN.
He described MIC as a cornerstone of Indian political representation in Malaysia, having served the community for more than 70 years.
“Makkal Sakti respects MIC’s long struggle. We will never try to replace them. Our principle is clear — cooperation, not rivalry,” he said.
According to Thanenthiran, both parties are aligned in strengthening the socio-economic, educational and welfare interests of the Indian community, and working together ensures stronger representation.
He dismissed any notion that Makkal Sakti intends to exploit MIC’s situation, insisting that the party remains loyal to BN’s framework of cooperation.
Speaking after the party’s 17th Annual General Assembly, Thanenthiran also expressed warm ties with MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran, stating their relationship remains strong.
Meanwhile, BN chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said MIC’s position in BN remains unresolved, despite reports of its interest in joining Perikatan Nasional.
Thanenthiran also used his speech to call for renewed commitment to the 2017 Malaysian Indian Blueprint, urging authorities to accelerate its implementation for the benefit of the community.
