KUANTAN — Umno Youth Indera Mahkota has demanded that Umno reassess its cooperation within the unity government after DAP’s Yeo Bee Yin posted a remark viewed as celebrating the court’s rejection of Najib Razak’s house arrest bid.
Its chief, Nik Mohd. Ridzuan Kamarudin, said the statement was offensive, insensitive and insulting to many Malaysians, as well as unbecoming of a national leader.
He insisted that Umno should not tolerate any form of disrespect toward its leaders and would rather sit in the opposition than compromise dignity and party principles.
Nik Mohd. Ridzuan also questioned the perceived inconsistency in how Najib’s royal addendum was treated, after the court ruled it invalid.
The High Court held that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong cannot independently exercise pardon powers outside the Pardons Board framework, in line with the Federal Constitution.
Najib remains imprisoned in Kajang.
