Zahid calls for calm after Umno leaders lash out at Yeo Bee Yin over Najib post

KUALA LUMPUR — Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has appealed for restraint after senior Umno leaders strongly criticised DAP’s Yeo Bee Yin for celebrating the court’s dismissal of Najib Razak’s house arrest application.

In a brief Facebook post, Zahid reminded supporters not to escalate political tensions.

Yeo’s post — which linked to an article titled “No house arrest for Najib” — drew backlash as Umno leaders accused her of lacking empathy and respect towards a former national leader.

BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir asked why one should “celebrate another person’s suffering”, while Umno Youth chief Muhamad Akmal Saleh suggested withdrawing support from the unity government.

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki also labelled the post as harsh and inhumane, warning that continued insensitivity could jeopardise political cooperation.

Najib remains imprisoned over the SRC International case while the High Court has rejected his bid to enforce the alleged royal directive on house arrest.
