Nooryana Najwa voices heartbreak as Najib’s request denied, vows continued strength and support for her father

KUALA LUMPUR — The emotional reaction of Nooryana Najwa, daughter of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, has captured public attention after the High Court rejected her father’s request involving the so-called Titah Adendum which allegedly would have permitted him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

Shortly after the court decision was delivered, Nooryana took to Instagram to share her sorrow, admitting she could not fully comprehend the emotional impact on her father. Her heartfelt line, “So so sorry daddy…” conveyed a daughter’s helplessness in witnessing someone she loves face continued imprisonment.

She however did not merely express sadness. Instead, she encouraged her father to remain resilient and maintain good health, stressing that their family will not abandon hope or their pursuit through legal means. Her message reflected a mix of vulnerability and strength — acknowledging the difficulty but refusing defeat.

The High Court’s ruling delivered by Judge Alice Loke Yee Ching affirmed that the alleged Titah Adendum was never formally tabled, discussed, nor adopted in the 61st Pardons Board meeting. As such, it could not be recognized as lawful nor implemented. The court further emphasized that any exercise of royal clemency or discretionary authority must operate strictly within constitutional and legal frameworks.

Najib’s legal team, led by Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, acknowledged the former premier’s disappointment but confirmed their intention to appeal the decision. Shafee reiterated that the defence maintains there are substantive points requiring judicial reconsideration at a higher court level.

Najib had filed for judicial review on April 1, 2024, claiming the existence of a supplementary royal directive that would allow him to serve his penalty at home rather than in prison. Monday’s ruling firmly concluded otherwise.

Meanwhile, public reaction remained divided. Supporters of Najib expressed sympathy and empathy for the family, while others upheld the court’s decision as a necessary affirmation of rule of law. Nevertheless, Nooryana’s post drew widespread emotional responses, with many acknowledging her courage in standing by her father.

Her message also showed a realistic understanding that the legal journey ahead remains challenging. Yet, she underlined continued perseverance, stating that their family’s efforts will continue as long as lawful avenues remain open.

“Let us stay strong and focus on what truly matters — your well-being,” she wrote, signifying that beyond legal and political narratives, there remains a personal struggle within the Najib household.

The ruling marks another critical point in Najib’s ongoing legal timeline, ensuring the case remains one of the most closely observed in Malaysia. As new legal steps are prepared, attention now turns toward potential appellate proceedings that may either reinforce or alter Monday’s verdict.

For now, Nooryana’s emotional expression has reaffirmed that behind every court ruling is a family navigating pain, uncertainty and faith in whatever future decisions may bring. While the courts continue determining legal questions, the emotional chapter unfolding for Najib’s family — particularly his daughter — adds a human dimension to a nationally significant legal saga.
