Veteran Leader Says UMNO Owes Public and Members Clarity on Najib Addendum Issue

KUALA LUMPUR – Calls are growing for UMNO to articulate a clearer position over the High Court’s ruling dismissing claims of an Addendum Decree related to imprisoned former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, with party veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah questioning the party’s continued silence.

He argued that while the matter is a legal process, it is unrealistic to separate its political impact entirely, particularly as Najib remains a towering figure in UMNO’s history and Malaysian politics.

Despite the issue drawing intense public attention, Tengku Razaleigh noted that no meeting of UMNO’s top leadership has been convened to evaluate its implications or to address concerns among party members.

The High Court ruling stated that no such addendum was ever part of the Pardons Board proceedings, confirming Najib must complete his sentence.

Tengku Razaleigh said UMNO’s reluctance to address the matter risks creating uncertainty, and that a responsible political organisation should present a clear stance.

He emphasised that taking a position does not equate to interfering in court affairs, but rather demonstrates leadership maturity and accountability within the government coalition.
