Selangor plans new Islamic cemetery in Sungai Kertas to address space shortage in Gombak

GOMBAK — Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has confirmed that a new Islamic cemetery project in Kampung Sungai Kertas is urgently required as existing cemeteries in Gombak are reaching maximum capacity.

The cemetery will be developed based on the Raudhatul Sakinah “Garden-style cemetery” concept, ensuring a well-managed, respectful and comfortable environment for burial arrangements.

The project will provide 6,623 burial plots, including 5,653 for adults and 868 for children, guaranteeing sufficient capacity for long-term needs.

As part of its initial implementation, 812 lots will be completed under Phase 1A, offering immediate relief to the shortage of burial plots currently faced in Gombak.

The first phase is scheduled for completion by May next year, aligned with the district’s increasing population demand.

The state government hopes the development will effectively resolve space limitations while improving cemetery infrastructure and services for the Muslim community.
