KUCHING: A new milestone in Sarawak’s aviation landscape begins as the state government finalises its takeover of MASwings Sdn Bhd through AirBorneo Holdings Sdn Bhd, effective 1 January 2026.
AirBorneo confirmed that the sale and purchase agreement with Malaysia Aviation Group was signed in February 2025, paving the way for the full takeover.
Under the arrangement, AirBorneo will assume full legal and operational responsibilities of MASwings. During the transition, the MASwings branding will remain in use before AirBorneo gradually rolls out its new brand identity.
The move supports the state’s ambition to enhance domestic air connectivity while offering fairer airfare options for Sarawakians. It also marks a significant step in advancing Sarawak’s socio-economic objectives and strengthening its aviation sector.
The state government also thanked employees, industry partners and stakeholders for their cooperation throughout the transition.
