KANGAR: Perlis State Assembly Speaker Rus’sele Eizan is confident that there will be no motion of no confidence brought against Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah, citing the commitment of state leaders to safeguard stability and unity.
He said the state leadership acknowledges the importance of respecting the royal decree urging unity, and therefore any move that may disrupt state administration should be avoided.
Rus’sele explained that although political parties previously pushed for by-elections, further review showed that such action would only burden the state, government agencies and taxpayers.
With Perikatan Nasional still retaining majority support in the State Assembly despite a few vacant seats, he said the situation does not justify drastic political measures.
He also said he leaves the decision on his position as Speaker to the Menteri Besar, while confirming that he has not received any instruction from Pas’ central leadership.
Rus’sele added that he will continue carrying out his duties as Speaker as usual unless decided otherwise through proper legislative procedures.
Pas earlier announced that its assemblymen will not participate in the new state executive council lineup while expressing solidarity with former Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli. Nonetheless, the party remains committed to continuing its role within the Perlis government.
