Three Perlis state seats remain vacant without by-elections; coordinators to assist constituents

KANGAR: The Perlis government will appoint state constituency coordinators to serve the people in Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji after the three seats were declared vacant, with no by-elections to be held for now.

State Assembly Speaker Rus’sele Eizan said the move ensures residents in the affected areas still have representation and access to government assistance despite the absence of elected assemblymen.

He said the seats officially remain vacant, although the former representatives may apologise to Pas’ central leadership and could possibly be reinstated subject to legal review if accepted.

The earlier notice calling for by-elections was withdrawn after reviewing current political developments, including Pas’ decision to remain in the Perlis PN government.

The vacancies were triggered after the three assemblymen, together with Bersatu representatives, withdrew support from former Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

The vacancy declaration dated Dec 29 remains effective.
