KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian government has opened applications for Phase 1 of the Media Innovation Fund, running from January 1 to January 14, 2026, in a move aimed at accelerating digital transformation and skills development within the media industry.
The Ministry of Communications said the fund is intended to empower media organisations and practitioners by supporting initiatives that enhance technological capabilities and professional competencies.
Eligible applicants include media organisations registered with the Department of Information Malaysia, as well as accredited media practitioners holding valid credentials.
The fund focuses on two main pillars: training and technology. Under the training component, applicants may seek funding for programmes related to new technologies or modern media practices, including training organisation costs and employee participation fees.
The technology component supports the acquisition of software and digital tools, such as audio and video production software, artificial intelligence solutions, automation systems and graphic design platforms that enhance content creation and newsroom efficiency.
Officials said the Media Innovation Fund reflects the government’s commitment to building a resilient and future-ready media ecosystem capable of navigating rapid technological change.
Application forms are available on the official Media Innovation Fund portal, and completed submissions must be received by January 14, either through physical submission at the Ministry of Communications or via email.
