ISTANBUL: Australia has reiterated its call for all stakeholders to pursue dialogue and diplomatic solutions amid heightened tensions in Venezuela, following recent actions reportedly involving the United States.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Canberra is closely following developments in Venezuela after reports that a US operation resulted in the detention of President Nicolás Maduro.
Albanese warned that further escalation could undermine regional stability and urged restraint from all parties involved.
“Australia encourages all sides to engage in dialogue and diplomacy to prevent the situation from worsening and to maintain stability in the region,” he said in a statement.
He reaffirmed Australia’s support for international law and for a peaceful and democratic transition in Venezuela that genuinely reflects the aspirations of its people.
Elsewhere, South Korea and the Philippines have also voiced concern over the situation. Seoul called for efforts to ease tensions and restore democracy through peaceful means, while Manila urged all parties to avoid actions that could further inflame the situation and to resolve disputes through dialogue and restraint.
Both countries said they are closely monitoring developments as the situation in Venezuela continues to unfold.
