UPKO Should Use Its Own Logo for the Sabah State Election – Tenom Division

TENOM, Aug 27 – The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) in Tenom has proposed that the party should contest the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17) under its own logo.

UPKO Tenom Information Chief, Judis Nasir, said that using the party’s own symbol would send a clear message of confidence in its strength and capabilities, while also projecting a mature and independent image — not merely reliant on the umbrella of larger political coalitions.

He noted that UPKO is no longer a race-based party following its rebranding in 2019, and is now more inclusive and progressive in its approach.

“In the Sabah political landscape, UPKO has its own distinct identity and is respected within any coalition for bringing unique strengths to the negotiating table,” Judis said when contacted today.

“It also signals that UPKO is not just a follower, but a coalition partner with solid grassroots support and a strong foundation.”

He added that UPKO has shown the ability to work effectively with various parties at both the state and federal levels.

“This relationship is important to ensure that Sabah’s voice is heard and the state’s interests are prioritised in national policymaking,” he said.

On the current political climate leading up to PRN17, Judis acknowledged that competition over electoral seats is inevitable — even among component parties within the same coalition.

“Every party believes they have the best candidate to win a particular constituency,” he said.

“However, what’s more important is to uphold the spirit of unity within the coalition, and to respect UPKO and Datuk Ewon Benedick in his role as the Chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah.”

Judis emphasised that the true measure of victory lies in how well coalition parties can maintain close cooperation to defend the people’s mandate.
