KOTA KINABALU: Mohd Naim Kurniawan Moktar, chief of UMNO Youth in the Kinabatangan division, has made it clear that he has no intention of contesting the Lamag state by-election following the death of his father, the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
His statement comes amid widespread speculation that he could be selected to fill the vacant seat, given his political role and family legacy.
Mohd Naim said while he appreciates the support and encouragement from various quarters, the selection of candidates must remain a party decision rather than a personal choice.
He stressed that Lamag should be represented by a local-born candidate who understands the area’s history, struggles and aspirations.
“Lamag is not just another constituency. It is a land built on the dignity and sacrifices of its people, and its voice must continue to be carried with honour,” he said in a Facebook post.
