From Backpacker to Global Rider: Anita Yusof’s Ten-Year Motorcycle Odyssey

KUALA LUMPUR — The extraordinary journey of Anita Yusof is a story of reinvention, courage and perseverance, charting her transformation from a backpacker into one of Malaysia’s most accomplished adventure riders.

Inspired by travel stories from Central Asia, Anita initially sought to explore remote regions as a backpacker. When she realised access to such places required private transport, she took the unconventional step of learning to ride a motorcycle—despite having no prior experience.

After mastering motorcycling within Malaysia, she expanded her routes to neighbouring countries before venturing into Central Asia, including Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. These early journeys laid the foundation for her first round-the-world tour in 2015, during which she travelled across four continents and more than 40 countries.

Later opting for early retirement from her academic career, Anita committed herself fully to exploration. Her journeys were marked by adaptability, from staying in budget lodgings and campsites to navigating isolated regions with careful preparation and spare fuel supplies.

After a decade on the road, Anita’s Global Dream Ride stands as a powerful testament that adventure knows no age limit—and that bold decisions can redefine an entire life.
