ALOR SETAR — A former warden of a private drug rehabilitation centre was acquitted and discharged by the High Court here today after the court found insufficient evidence to link him to the death of an inmate in 2021.
Judge Evawani Farisyta Mohammad said the prosecution failed to conclusively prove that the fatal injuries were caused by the accused, adding that forensic findings suggested possible involvement of other individuals.
The judge highlighted contradictions between the charge and medical testimony, including that the victim’s cause of death was abdominal aorta injuries rather than injuries to the chest and neck as alleged in the charge sheet.
As a result, the court ruled that the charge was unsustainable and ordered the accused to be released without entering his defence.
